Shiela R Castillo is CEF Futures Learning Advisor since 2018, and Fellow of the Circle for Engaged Foresight since 2012. She is currently working in Cambodia as Technical Advisor of Let Us Create Futures. She also advised two CSO networks in Cambodia as an Organizational Development Specialist for VSO. Before working in Cambodia, she has been working on social development in the Philippines for more 15 years doing projects for non-government organizations, as well as national and international institutions.
Shiela trained as a Climate Presenter for Nobel Prize Laureate Al Gore’s The Climate Reality Project (TCRP) in Jakarta in January 2011. She also participated in the Asia Pacific Climate Change Leadership Conference in Australia. Since then, she has conducted more than 70 climate presentations in key cities all over the Philippines and has reached more than 20,000 participants from various sectors all over the country. Her climate awareness initiative was featured in the coffee table book Climate Adaptation, Best Practices in the Philippines, published by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in 2012. In 2016, she mentored in the 31st International Training of The Climate Reality Project in Sofitel, Manila. In the same training, she was also one of the speakers to almost 700 participants from all over the world. On Earth Day 2017, she was awarded the first Luntiang Dahon (Green Leaf) Award for Climate Leadership.
She is the initiator of Vision: Vegan World, Vision: Vegan Cambodia, and Disposable Bottle Busters, online communities campaigning against animal cruelty and use of disposable plastics, respectively. I consider myself a futures learner and has been and one of its Futures Learning Advisor since 2018.
She has a degree in BSE Social Sciences from the Philippine Normal University, Manila. Her interests are climate resilience, sustainable futures, compassionate food as the food of the future, and the transformative role of cultural creatives and the civil society.
